Lock your tablet into kiosk mode
A few built-in settings turn an ordinary tablet into a dedicated kiosk: always on, free of pop-ups, and locked to the check-in screen. Menu names vary a little by version and manufacturer; if you can't find one, search for it in Settings.
1
Keep it plugged inRun a charging cable to the stand so the kiosk never runs out of battery during the day. Many stands have a channel or opening for the cable.
2
Keep the screen awakeOn iPad, open Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock and choose Never. On Android, set Settings → Display → Screen timeout to the longest option; to keep the screen on for good, turn on Developer options → Stay awake, which keeps it lit while charging.
3
Silence notificationsTurn on Do Not Disturb (a Focus on iPad) so messages, alerts and update reminders don't pop up over the check-in screen.
4
Lock the tablet to CoReceptionistOn iPad, turn on Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access and set a passcode. Open the CoReceptionist app, triple-click the top button (or the Home button) and tap Start. On Android, turn on App pinning (search Settings for “pinning”), open the CoReceptionist app, go to the recent apps screen, tap the app's icon and choose Pin. Visitors can't leave the app until staff unlock it.
5
Keep everything up to dateTurn on automatic updates for the operating system and for the CoReceptionist app, so the kiosk gets security fixes and new features without anyone remembering to install them. Updates usually install overnight while the tablet is charging.
6
Managing many kiosks? If your IT team uses a mobile device management (MDM) tool, it can apply these settings and lock the tablet to the app across every location at once.
TIPShare the Guided Access or pinning passcode with front-desk staff, so they can unlock the tablet when it needs attention. The kiosk admin screens (hold the company name or logo for 5 seconds) still work while the tablet is locked to the app.
